My name is John Cavanagh. I have been designing and coding websites for close to 20 years. Several years ago I couldn’t shake the feeling that the websites I was creating for others were leaving me feeling empty and unfulfilled. They “did the job” well, but not much more. I gradually realized this feeling in me was because I had little heart/spirit connection with the nature of the businesses I was working for.
The key to my dissatisfaction was in the last word of that last sentence above. I was working “for” businesses rather than “with” people. I was taking anything that came my way with no regard to how that work resonated with my heart and spirit. I think there is a better way.
Today, I like to get to know the people I will be working with. How did you get to where you are now? What things totally excite you? What do you love in your life? What drives you crazy? What do you like to do when you have nothing to do? I want to know who the people or businesses are that you look up to, consider your equals, or even consider your competition. I will ask about the people you are currently working with in your business and the people you are hoping to work with a few years down the road. And you are welcome to ask me these same questions or any other questions that come to mind
If we both feel that we are a good “fit” then we can move on to the details of your website. But this would probably be a second conversation. I’ll want to know your favorite colors, features you would like right away and features you might want down the road. I will probably ask you to send me three or four website URLs of sites you like, or don’t like, so we can talk about the things you like or dislike about them. Then my design ideas and yours are mixed, shaken not stirred, blended well, and I will send you one or two layout ideas as image files. If they feel like a start, we can fine-tune the concepts. I will give you an estimate of time and cost.
At that point I will ask you for a deposit to solidify our work together. I generally ask for 50% down and 50% when the website’s “Ready-to-launch” state is approved. But that won’t be goodbye! I like to continue to check in on the websites I have created and generally ask that you let me perform upgrades as required, since doing that is just part of looking after my “people.” And I do this gratis. Because I put my heart and soul into our work together, the same as you! If this feels like a process that makes sense to you, contact me and let’s begin!
